FOREWARD

During NAAA’s recent office remodeling project, one of the first tasks involved clearing out the
cabinets, closets, and even corners where a variety of items gathered over NAAA’s seven decades.
Our plan was simply to tidy up for the renovation and reorganize the files with the goal of digitizing
them to create a computer archive.
As we poured over the photos, newsletters, convention programs, meeting minutes, press clippings,
and other association records tucked away in those cabinets and closets, we began to reflect on the
people and values that brought us here today and how we can prepare to meet the challenges of
tomorrow. This project gave us a perspective on our history, a tie to those who came before us in the
industry, and a renewed pride in their achievements.

We believe that’s a gift worth sharing, especially in this year of a global pandemic that has disrupted
the routine of conducting professional and personal relationships. So we created this
publication sprinkled with just a sampling of all the content from NAAA’s digital archive put in
context with a timeline and flavor of each decade.

We hope this trip down memory lane gives you the same fun and enjoyment we’ve had in looking
through NAAA’s files, as well as some assurance in these uncertain times that the road ahead leads
to a bright future.
